Currently, most of my makeup collection consists of drugstore brand products, but I do have a few luxury beauty products that I really love. I’ll show you how to save on them!
When I first started using makeup, I was 14 years old, and my older sister had given me a pale, powdery, blue eyeshadow. Knowing nothing about application or color theory, I used this eyeshadow religiously. Fortunately, I didn’t look too terrible, but I still wish I would’ve done some research. Throughout high school and college, my makeup choices were better, and when I started blogging, I had access to more likeminded people that inspired my future style. Now, I like a good mix of pretty and practical. Since luxury products carry a heavier price tag, I balance it out with majority drugstore products with the occasional splurge.
Pricing and quality.
If you’re considering a luxury beauty purchase, do your research first. Since you’ll be making an investment, shop around and swatch the products if possible. Usually, luxury brand associates can provide small samples, and if you ask very nicely, they might oblige your request. Prior to making a purchase, inquire about the return policy in the event you change your mind. In my experience, Sephora, Macy’s, and Nordstrom have excellent return policies.
Wearability and usage.
Ideally, you want to get the most use out of your investment. When I shop for luxury beauty products, I like to purchase shades that I love to wear all the time (red and berry tones). Unless you’re solely purchasing luxury products for display purposes, you’ll want to get the most bang for your buck. Keep in mind, all beauty products do have an expiration date.
Is luxury beauty worth it?
Depending on your budget and style, I would say it depends. Personally, I think that if you work hard for your money, you can do whatever you want with it. Some people like to spend their money on cars, food, and traveling. As a lipstick addict, I prefer to spend my extra dollars on a really pretty lipstick.
For extra savings, I love using Ebates* for coupons and cash back on my purchases. It’s easy, free, and you save a bunch if you plan your purchases really well! For instance, if you purchase during big sales events on top of using Ebates, you can get luxury items on sale, with extra cash back. I’ve saved hundreds using Ebates as my savings partner, and I wouldn’t shop any other way.
When it comes to saving, timing is everything. If you’re on a budget and want to treat yourself, plan your shopping so that you maximize savings. The best times to shop are during holiday sales, days after holidays, friends and family sales, and random sales days that you can only find out if you’re on a company’s mailing list. For your favorite stores, join their mailing list so you are informed of great deals and sales events.
